Amazon.co.uk Review“A gruffalo? What’s a gruffalo?”“A gruffalo! Why, didn’t you know? He has terrible tusks, and terrible claws, and terrible teeth in his terrible jaws.”
And so begins the story of a quick-witted mouse as he encounters a host of predators who seem to think he might make a tasty treat. As he ventures deeper into the deep dark wood, stumbling across a hungry fox, a not-so-wise owl, and a slimy snake, spinning ever-extraordinary yarns about the scary, scaly gruffalo, he quickly realises that the hungry beast he has been talking of isn’t imaginary after all.

Introduction
The latest batch of Amazon Kindle ebook readers has been a bit slow to filter out to the UK.
We got the new £89 Kindle fast enough, but the Kindle Fire has been totally absent anywhere outside the US since its launch, and it’s only now that the Kindle Touch and Kindle Touch 3G have arrived.
The £89 Kindle was a simplified device, losing the keyboard and 3G access to keep its size, weight and price down. The Kindle Touch is a little more flexible, even though it’s arguably simpler still. There’s only one obvious button on it now, below the More >

With the Kindle, Amazon seems to have a pretty tight hold on ebook readers, having created an attractive and desirable – yet also affordable – product in a market that until then hadn’t really been catching people’s attention.
This has led to the rest of the market to up its game – no bad thing when this results in products like the Bookeen Cybook Odyssey.
At first glance it looks like a rather standard ebook reader, but dig a little further and you’ll find some good features.
The vibrant and clear black and white e-ink display is also touch sensitive, More >

It feels like a long time since the Sony Walkman was the king of portable music, with the Apple iPod stealing its thunder.
The Sony Walkman NWZ-B173 isn’t going to revolutionise the MP3 player market, but it’s a decent budget player with a few nice features.
A charge of just three minutes provides 90 minutes’ playback – whilst a longer charge gives around 18 hours.
A built-in USB interface is a nice touch that makes plugging it into a PC incredibly quick, and adding files is done via dragging and dropping in Windows Explorer, no need for proprietary programs or iTunes More >

What do you want from a modern car sat nav? How big should the screen be?
These are questions that the Navman Panoramic drives home as you eye up its attention-grabbing 7-inch display, along with: will this even fit in my car?
Don’t worry on the last one – thanks to an excellent car mounting system, it will.
Modern sat navs are facing a rising challenge from smartphones, including iPhones, as well as some tablets. One way of protecting the market from these young upstarts is to focus on what dedicated sat navs do best.

Overview and features
The most amazing thing about Apple’s latest iPod touch is its colour.
It’s available in both black and white. No, we’re not being glib – we mean it!
Apart from the colour change there’s no difference here between the specs of the iPod touch 4th Generation from 2010, and this latest refresh. This is certainly not the iPod touch 5th Generation that you may be looking for…
When the iPhone got a bump in specs with the release of the iPhone 4S last October we expected the specs for the iPod touch to get a bump too, but so far More >

The Sony Reader PRS-T1 Wi-Fi is a light and thin ebook reader that doesn’t quite measure up to the competition. If the only two specifications you care about are the weight (167 grams) or the thickness (9.5mm) then this might be your best option. However, if you care about an accessible interface, extra features beyond the basic book store, and a reasonable (slightly higher) price, the Kindle 4 is a better bet.
Available in red, black, or white, the Reader is a stylish and svelte ebook reader that felt comfortable during several long ebook reading sessions. You can borrow More >

If it’s vaguely tablet-shaped, there’s a good chance that Elonex makes it: the firm makes 10-inch and 7-inch Android tablets with capacitive touchscreens, cut-price seven-inchers with resistive screens, portable media players, photo frames, weather stations and ebook readers.
In ebooks it makes two kinds of devices: e-ink readers such as the £99 621EB, and LCD ones such as the 705EB. It’s the LCD one we’re interested in here.
As with previous Elonex devices, you’ll be able to pick up the 705EB in Waterstones, and the RRP is £129 – slightly pricey in ebook terms, at £40 more than the View More >

We’re seeing an ideological battle happening in ebook land. On one hand you have the e-ink advocates, who argue that anything but e-ink is hopeless for ebook reading, and that ebook readers should do one thing really, really well. On the other, you’ve got the LCD fans, who reckon that there’s more to life than just books and that having a device that can only handle one kind of media is a bit silly.
View Quest is firmly in the second camp, so its Bookbox is a multimedia device as well as an ebook reader.

Overview
For a while it was looking as if Amazon had the UK ebook market to itself: while rival booksellers offered a range of ebook readers from the likes of Elonex and Sony, nobody offered the soup-to-nuts service of Amazon’s Kindle, store and associated apps. Now, though, Amazon UK has a serious rival in the form of WHSmith and its new Canadian friend, Kobo.
Kobo isn’t new to the ebook game – it’s been doing decent business in the US for a few years now, and its UK ebook store has been open since February 2010 – but its ereaders are More >
